Madeira MIUT road closures and hiking trail access
The Madeira Island Ultra-Trail (MIUT) closes two mountain roads for a few hours during race weekend, near Porto Moniz and Curral das Freiras. The race route itself stays open to the public, but hikers planning a route through either area that weekend should check both closures.

If you're near Porto Moniz or Curral das Freiras during MIUT weekend (2027), two roads close for a few hours each: ER101 late at night, ER107 during the day on the Sunday. The race route itself stays open to the public. Only these two named government roads close.
Which roads close, and when (2027)
A Direção Regional de Estradas notice for the 2027 edition closes ER101, from the Porto Moniz roundabout to Caminho da Ladeira, overnight from about 23:55 to 00:15 on 24-25 April. It also closes ER107 at Curral das Freiras to one-way traffic from 07:00 to 17:00 on 25 April.
Both windows come from the regional government's own road-closure notice for this edition, not from the race organizer's own site, which does not publish closure hours itself.

The race route itself stays open
MIUT's own regulations state plainly that the race route is not closed to the public. Only the two named government road closures above are actually closed; everywhere else on the course, hikers and other trail users share the path with runners during the event.

A road closure is not a trail closure
The two roads above close by a regional government notice, not by IFCN, Madeira's park authority. Only IFCN can officially close a classified trail (PR). A closed access road does not by itself mean a trail is closed.
MIUT's organizer does not name any specific classified trail (PR) as part of its course, and IFCN itself states it does not organize, endorse or validate MIUT or any long-distance crossing inspired by it. If your own route happens to cross an IFCN-managed classified trail that needs a SIMplifica booking, that rule applies regardless of MIUT.
